What is Siberian ginseng and how do I take it?

Siberian ginseng is the common name for Eleuthro (Eleutherococcus senticosus or Acanthopanax senticosus), a small, woody shrub belonging to the Araliaceae plant family that has been used medically for at least 2,000 years.

Our Siberian ginseng wellness supplement is a premium tincture that extracts organic herb into medical-grade alcohol to provide the fastest, most efficient results; it’s absorbed into the system more quickly than powders or tablets.

Recommended dosage: 1 ml (15 – 20 drops) in 200 ml of water, 3 times daily.

We recommend that after six weeks of daily use, you take a two week break.

Contraindications

This product contains pharmaceutical-grade alcohol so is not recommended for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women or anyone who wishes to avoid alcohol.

Always check with your doctor before taking a new herbal remedy, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have an ongoing medical condition.

How does Siberian ginseng work?

Siberian ginseng, or Eleuthero is a stimulant, increasing nervous system function. It also belongs to a very special category of plants called adaptogens,4 which help your body to handle physical, chemical or biological stress by working on the HPA (hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenals) axis.5 This is significant because chronic stress is known to contribute to health concerns including the common cold, weight gain, heart disease, sleep problems, depression, ulcers, digestive issues, impaired healing ability and back/neck/shoulder pain.6

What is Siberian ginseng used for?

Eleuthero demonstrates an ability to improve physical stamina and mental sharpness, similar to caffeine but without an impending crash.7 According to the book, Botanical Medicine for Women’s Health, “Clinical findings also have suggested that patients with moderate fatigue in chronic fatigue syndrome may benefit from use of Eleuthero, and that older adults may safely experience improvement in some aspects of mental health and social functioning after four weeks of therapy.”

What is a herbal tincture?

Tinctures are concentrated herbal extracts made by soaking some part of a plant in alcohol, which works to pull out or “extract” the active ingredients in the plant parts, concentrating them as a liquid. This liquid can then be consumed by adding 15-20 drops into a small amount of water.

Tinctures have been around for millennia and are a key component of traditional herbal medicine. Tinctures make it easy to consume the natural health-boosting chemicals found in some plants. An estimated 80 percent of the world population relies on tinctures for at least some of their healthcare needs.8

Our premium organic herbal tinctures are made right here in the UK, by soaking one part certified organic Siberian Ginseng root in three parts 30% alcohol.

We use a medical grade alcohol which is grain-derived, pure 95.5% ethanol with a distilled water 4.5% additional, adhering to the British and European pharmacopoeia monograph specification. It is approved for use in medicine production and perfectly safe for human consumption.

How much Siberian ginseng should I take daily?

Our Siberian ginseng is in tincture form, which is an alcohol-based liquid extract. We recommend that you take 15 – 20 drops, up to three times daily, mixed into a small amount of water between meals. We do not recommend taking Siberian ginseng immediately before bedtime as it may boost your energy and make it difficult to sleep. According to the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, for chronic conditions, such as stress or fatigue, Siberian ginseng is sometimes taken for three months, followed by three to four weeks off.
