Yes, you read that right – beetroot in a smoothie! It’s probably not the first thing you would think of doing with beets, but it works!
With 1 in 3 adults suffering from high blood pressure in the UK,1https://www.bloodpressureuk.org/news/media-centre/blood-pressure-facts-and-figures/ it’s important to consider how you can support your blood pressure naturally.
This smoothie is tasty and packed with nutrients! But why beetroots? I hear you ask. Let me explain…
The health benefits of beetroots
This wonderfully vibrant root vegetable is both nutritious and delicious! Research has found that beetroot juice can lower blood pressure.2https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39069465/3https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6316347/ Beetroots are rich in dietary nitrates, which are converted into nitric oxide. Nitric oxide acts as a vasodilator, helping to regulate blood pressure.4https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0006295222004191 A healthy blood pressure is important for lowering your risk of serious health events like heart attacks and strokes.5https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/high-blood-pressure/
Kefir can help too!
Kefir is a fermented food, naturally rich in beneficial bacteria. These good bacteria support a healthy and diverse gut microbiome. Research has found that daily kefir consumption can lower systolic blood pressure,6https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9594263/ making it the perfect addition to your diet.
