Chuckling Goat named Innovative Health Solutions Brand of the Year 2025
So, we won this:
And, y’know. Always nice to win things.
But this is particularly nice from my point of view, because it kind of – justifies my crazy.
What I mean to say is – I’m constantly having to explain to Rich WHY I want to do something that no one has done before. He just thinks I’m nutty. The thinking in West Wales (which is very traditional and rural, if you’ve never visited) is that if his great grandfather didn’t do it, and his grandfather didn’t do it, and his father didn’t do it – then there can’t really be much point.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I love this traditional outlook. It’s one of the reasons I came here from the states. A backwards emigration – from the new world to the old. I came here from California, where the oldest non-indigenous antique dates back to 1769 – and heck, on the farm we keep our monopoly board in an ancient Welsh oak cupboard that’s older than that! I adore the Ye Olde Worlde-ness of everything here. Twee, I know, but I can’t help it. It’s part of being an American – we have history-envy.
(Just to show you that I’m not kidding about this – this is my office!)
However. When this fustiness leaves off sparkling around gorgeous old oak furniture, and creeps into mind-set, I am less enchanted. Why didn’t Great-Grandfather think of doing this? I don’t know – maybe he was busy trying to survive in a VERY hostile environment! Maybe he didn’t have the advantages we have today of being able to research ANYTHING, IMMEDIATELY! Maybe – just maybe – he was handicapped by not having the entire geographical world and array of human thought available to him, at a moment’s notice.
Because that’s what we have today. I consider it such a privilege to be alive right now – we can literally wander the aisles of human history like a blinking grocery store, picking out the goodies that we find interesting or helpful. It’s mad, when you think about it. We’re spoilt for choice.
So – I love to innovate. When I was designing my coat of arms, (still pending, these things take time!) the nice Rouge Dragon Pursuivant at the Royal College of Arms asked me what I wanted my motto to be. After some thought, I came up with this: “Nature. Science. Service.”
Because that’s what matters to me. Combine those things, and you get this:
My brother-in-law once said to me, “You’re either the smartest crazy person I’ve ever known. Or the craziest smart person. And I’m still not sure which“.
So, here’s to the crazy!
