Want to clear your skin? Here’s how…

So, if you’re a Friend of the Goats, you’ve probably worked out by now that your gut is connected to pretty much EVERYTHING.

But first and foremost – and this is a bit of a weird one to get your head around – your gut is connected to your SKIN.

You know what they say about pictures and what they’re worth..so I’ll hush while you have a look at these:

Before and after images of skin on face showing improvements
Before and after images of skin on chest and stomach showing improvements
Before and after images of skin on face showing improvements
Before and after images of skin on hands showing improvements

This is how we started our journey at Chuckling Goat – people turned up at the farmhouse wanting my help with their skin conditions. And I helped them.

Now let’s be clear – you only turn up at the goat farm in Wales to ask the crazy American lady for help with your skin after you have been EVERYWHERE ELSE, and failed to find a solution. You’ve already checked with every doctor, every consultant, every hospital you could find. I get it. Fair enough.

But if you’re coping with any of these issues yourself, I’m guessing that you’re probably as frustrated as those folks who turned up at my door in the early days. Because you’ve already tried every lotion, potion, cream and steroid going. And none of it worked for long. Right?

Here’s the thing – you will never clear any of these issues with topical treatment alone. You can put whatever you like on your skin, and it’s not going to solve the problem permanently.

Why is that?

Because eczema, psoriasis and rosacea all start with an out-of-balance immune system – each in its own way. And 70% of your immune system sits inside your gut. These issues are not merely skin conditions – they’re symptoms of an underlying gut disorder.

In order to clear your skin, you must heal your gut.

Now, here at CG, we’re taking turns each month to explore the gut’s connection to a different part of the body. Gives us the chance to explode it out and take a closer look, without just blithering, “It’s just all connected to EVERYTHING, honest!” which is what I find myself often saying. (Strangely, I’ve found that just makes people roll their eyes).

Anyhow, this month, in honour of summer and beaches and getting mankini-ready, we’re focussing on the gut-skin connection. (Next month, after you’ve been at the barbecues and vacation pina coladas, we’ll be talking gut-liver cleanse. Just saying. We’ve got you.)

So let me break down the gut-skin connection for you, v. briefly. It has to do with something called zonulin.

Zonulin is a protein that controls how ‘leaky’ your gut lining is. When too much zonulin is released—often due to stress, poor diet, or infections – it can open gaps in the gut wall. This ‘leaky gut’ allows unwanted particles to escape into the bloodstream, triggering immune reactions that can show up as eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea.

Think of your gut like a garden fence – zonulin is the gatekeeper. When too much zonulin is released, the gate swings open, letting in troublemakers like toxins and bacteria. This can confuse your immune system and spark flare-ups on your skin – like eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea.

What’s to be done? Supporting gut health helps calm inflammation at the source. A healthy gut keeps the “gate” strong and your skin calm. So we work to resolve the issue from the inside AND outside at the same time.

And that’s how we get results like the ones you see above. Our gut-skin protocol involves taking the kefir + Complete Prebiotic, and also applying our probiotic soaps and lotions topically. See, it’s a double-whammy super solution – probiotics from the inside and outside at the same time! If you’re already a CG fan, you might want to add Pure Fish Collagen and Skin Rescue tea for next-level results.

How does it work? Kefir is like planting good seeds in your gut garden, and prebiotics are the compost that help them grow. Together, they nourish your microbiome, reduce gut leakiness, and calm the immune system – helping ease the inflammation behind eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea.

Then our probiotic soap and lotion work like gardeners for your skin – gently sweeping away irritants while planting beneficial microbes that restore balance and calm. Just like your gut, your skin needs a healthy microbiome to stay clear and strong. (Please note – as mentioned above – probiotic skincare can help calm things down and reduce redness – but in general nothing will completely CLEAR your skin until you resolve your gut issues as well.)

And that’s how it all works. Simples!
