5 healthy mocktails for Sober October

After a summer of indulging in a few too many white wine spritzers, you may be feeling ready for a break before the party season. For some, this might mean a ‘dry’ month; for others, it’s ‘moderation’.

Taking a break from alcohol, even temporarily, can make a big difference to your overall health, including improving sleep and memory, better immune function, clearer skin and weight loss.1https://www.healthline.com/health-news/sober-october-what-a-month-of-no-drinking-can-do-for-your-health#What-happens-to-the-body-when-you-abstain-from-alcohol-for-30-days?

Whether you’re looking to reduce or eliminate alcohol this month, we’re here to make your ‘Stoptober’ easier with these tasty mocktail recipes – cheers! 🍹

1. Mint & Grapefruit Kombucha Mocktail

Ingredients:

Juice of 1/2 a grapefruit

150ml kombucha (we like Fix8’s Sicilian Citrus Kombucha for this recipe!)

Small handful of mint leaves

Ice cubes or crushed ice

Method:

Add the juice of 1/2 a grapefruit and a small handful of fresh mint to a cocktail shaker. Muddle using a cocktail muddler (if you’re fancy like that!) or use a pestle and mortar. Pour the juice and mint into a glass with ice and top with kombucha.

2. Secret Sangria

Ingredients (serves 1):

100ml hibiscus tea

100ml still water

2 large strawberries, sliced

1/4 apple into chunks

Small handful of fresh mint

2-3 slices of orange

Ice cubes

Method:

Brew your hibiscus tea. Once cooled, top with 100ml of plain, still water. Cut your fruit and add to the glass along with the ‘watered down’ hibiscus tea. Add plenty of ice and et voila – your Secret Sangria…the secret being there’s no booze! 😉

3. Tummy Tea Spritzer

Ingredients (serves 1):

100ml Tummy Tea

100ml sparkling water

Juice of 1/2 a lime

Stevia to taste

Small handful of raspberries

Method:

Cover 1-2 TBSPS of Tummy Tea with 100ml boiled water. Leave to steep for 15 minutes. Sweeten to taste with stevia then chill in the fridge. Once cool, pour into a glass adding 100ml of sparkling water, the juice of 1/2 a lime and a small handful of fresh raspberries.

4. Virgin Mary

Ingredients (serves 1):

90ml tomato juice

Juice of 1/2 a lemon

3-6 drops of Tabasco sauce (optional 🌶️)

A dash of Worcestershire sauce

A pinch of ground black pepper

Ice cubes

1 stick of celery

Method:

Add a small handful of ice cubes to a tall glass. Pour the tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, the juice of 1/2 a lemon and a few drops of Tabasco sauce onto the ice. Season with cracked black pepper, cut your celery stick in half, lengthways, and stir. Leave the celery in as garnish.

5. Cucumber & Basil Mocktail

Ingredients (serves 1):

1/2 small cucumber

Small handful of fresh mint

Small handful of fresh basil

Juice of 1/2 a lime

2 stevia ‘tabs’/clickers

Sparkling water

Crushed ice

Method:

Roughly chop the cucumber and place in a blender with the mint and basil. Blitz until liquified. Pour the cucumber and herb liquid into a sieve over a cocktail shaker. Use the back of a spoon to press the cucumber mix into the shaker. Add the juice of 1/2 a lime, 2 stevia tabs, and sparkling water to fill your glass – stir. Pour into a fancy gin glass with crushed ice.
