Because anxiety, cognitive changes, insomnia and fatigue can have many causes, gut health should never be used as a shortcut to diagnosis. Persistent, severe or worsening symptoms deserve appropriate professional assessment, particularly when they interfere with everyday life or occur alongside other physical or mental-health concerns.
Anxiety
Anxiety is the body’s response to perceived threat or uncertainty, involving changes in thoughts, emotions and physical systems.
Short periods of anxiety are normal. Persistent or excessive anxiety that interferes with everyday life can become an anxiety disorder and deserves appropriate support. The gut-brain axis may influence some of the underlying biology but is not the sole cause.

“Will kefir make me sleep?”
Kefir should not be thought of as a sleeping tablet.
It is better positioned as one part of a gut-supportive diet alongside the foundations of healthy sleep: regular timing, darkness, activity during the day and appropriate stress management.
Kefir may fit into an evening food routine if tolerated, but persistent insomnia should be properly assessed rather than managed solely through gut products.
Fatigue
Fatigue is a persistent feeling of physical or mental exhaustion that is not always relieved by rest.
Sleep loss, stress, illness, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal conditions, medications and mental-health problems are among many possible causes. The gut microbiome may influence energy-related processes, but persistent fatigue should not automatically be blamed on gut dysbiosis.
Energy is a whole-body process
Your ability to feel energetic depends on:

- hormones;

- mental health;
- immune activity;
- and metabolic health.
Your gut contributes because it is involved in nutrient absorption and because microbes transform food into metabolites.
But fatigue is one of the least specific symptoms in medicine.

Kefir is food, not a stimulant.
