In 2018 we opened our new dairy, packing room and offices. Tucked into a sheltered spot on our family farm our new building is modern, light and highly energy efficient. Together with masses of insulation we installed low energy heating and zoned LED lighting. Our new building has a much lower carbon footprint than the old stone barns we previously worked in. We have installed 14kw of Solar Panels on the roof to contribute to our electricity needs.
The new building has given us the opportunity to really look at how we do things. Here are a few examples..
- Our office manager, Elly, has been looking at all the systems we use to deal with orders, payments, labels etc. We reduced the amount of paper we use and printing we do by over 50% and the paper we do use is made from 100% recycled material.
- Our website hosting company is the first in the UK to be entirely carbon neutral by developing hydropower renewable energy schemes.
- Our cleaner, Mark, has taken a long hard look at the cleaning products we use and has switched to plant based non-toxic cleaning products. Better for us and the planet.
- Our new electricity supplier provides 40% of our electricity from renewable energy sources (the national average is 24%).
