Loose-leaf, pure and powerful: herbal teas for better health

Who doesn’t love a good cuppa? Warm and soothing on a cold winter’s day or cleansing and cooling as the seasons change. Tea has been around for thousands of years, originating in China around 2700 B.C. before spreading worldwide and becoming a staple beverage.1https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11521711/

From green to herbal to fruit blends, there are endless types of tea to choose from! But here in the UK, black tea reigns supreme with approximately 100 million cups of tea consumed across the country each day.2https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zm2txyc That’s a lot of tea!

For thousands of years, people have brewed herbal-infused teas for health and healing. Some are more popular than others, such as ginger tea for nausea and digestion or echinacea for immune-boosting properties. They have a rich history across traditions for treating ailments and complaints.3https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11521711/

You can find herbal teas in teabags or loose-leaf options. Loose-leaf teas are brewed through an infuser, often a fine-mesh metal sieve, to prevent the larger pieces of tea from escaping. We have a glass teapot infuser that pairs perfectly with our herbal teas. Its 800 ml capacity means you can enjoy several cups of tea with each brew!

At Chuckling Goat, all our teas are loose leaf and 100% natural with no added ‘flavourings’ or extra ingredients. Dried herbs, flowers and roots in their most pure form 🌿. Whether you’re on our full Gut Health Protocol or just taking our kefir, they’re designed to complement your gut health journey. Let’s take a deep dive into our five teas and their ingredients –

1. Get Me Through The Day Tea

Our Get Me Through The Day Tea contains rosemary leaf, vervain leaf, peppermint leaf and mugwort leaf. Composed by Shann to give you a non-caffeinated uplift throughout the day, it is great for lifting your energy and your mood.

Rosemary has been used for thousands of years to treat a range of ailments, such as digestive problems and headaches and as a tonic for general wellbeing.4https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/health/nutrition/health-benefits-of-rosemary

2. Skin Rescue Tea

Our Skin Rescue Tea contains chickweed, chamomile, nettle, yarrow and calendula. A powerhouse for the skin, this tea is Shann’s private recipe used to help friends, family and clients. We recommend this tea for skin flare-ups alongside our Gut Health Protocol. You can even put it in your bath 🛁

Traditionally, chickweed has been used to treat skin ailments from eczema and acne to bites and burns.5https://draxe.com/nutrition/chickweed/ This is complemented by yarrow, which is used as digestive support and for healing skin inflammation.6https://www.verywellhealth.com/yarrow-health-benefits-4586386

3. Gut Cleanse Tea

As the name suggests, our Gut Cleanse Tea is cleansing for both the gut and the liver and can be helpful with bouts of constipation. It contains dandelion root, burdock root and yellow dock root.

All three of these bitter herbs have a long history for their cleansing properties. Yellow dock is often used to help with constipation and liver support.7https://www.herbalreality.com/herb/yellow-dock/ Dandelion root is a liver tonic, helping to support the liver and gallbladder in detoxification.8https://www.herbalreality.com/herb/dandelion/ Lastly, burdock root is traditionally known as a ‘blood cleanser’ and used to treat digestive ailments.9https://www.herbalreality.com/herb/burdock/

Please note: Like any cleanse, our Gut Cleanse Tea should be taken for a limited period of treatment, as cleanses may deplete the system over time. You may drink three cups daily, for 21 days. We recommend this a maximum of twice per year.

4. Tummy Tea

Our Tummy Tea is formulated with your gut health in mind, containing meadowsweet, chamomile, peppermint and marshmallow root. Natural care for your tummy, it is often used by IBS sufferers.

Marshmallow root is a popular herb, historically used to treat coughs, colds and congestion. However, recent research has shown that it may help repair the gut lining and lower inflammation as well.10https://draxe.com/nutrition/marshmallow-root/

5. Sing Me To Sleep Tea

A relaxing blend of valerian root, lavender flowers, hop flowers and chamomile, our Sing Me To Sleep Tea is a soothing addition to your bedtime ritual. Shann originally made this recipe for her children – safe, fragrant and calming.

Valerian root is commonly used to aid sleep and improve insomnia.11https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/valerian-root#potential-benefits It is often paired with other relaxing herbs such as chamomile to help reduce stress and encourage rest.12https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/valerian-root#potential-benefits
