5 reasons to start drinking herbal tea!

Herbs are celebrated as nature’s gift because of their diverse applications, their many health benefits and their positive impact on the wider environment.  Herbs are natural, plant-based substances that have traditionally been used for centuries all over the world for medical, aromatic and culinary purposes.

We advocate herbs as an integral part of the holistic approach to wellness here at Chuckling Goat, so much so that we created our own Herbal Tea range! Herbs are rich in antioxidants and antimicrobials; they have many antifungal and antibacterial properties that can support your health and well-being.

Here are 5 reasons to start drinking herbal tea:

1. They are natural

Herbs have been used for centuries in traditional medicine practices around the world and herbal teas are just one of many methods of application.  They have no nasties in them, taste delicious and are wonderfully aromatic.

2. They have medicinal properties

Herbs have strong antimicrobial properties that can help keep the bad bacteria (pathogens) at bay inside your gut microbiome.  This in turn supports the health of your good gut bacteria by enabling them to thrive.  We designed our 21-day Gut Cleanse Tea with this in mind – to knock back those pathogens and give your gut-healing journey a natural boost.

3. They are regenerative and affordable

You needn’t have a flourishing herb garden to make your own tea.  Maybe you live in an apartment – grow herbs on your windowsill, it’s surprisingly easy.  To make your own herbal teas, pick a small bunch of your herbs of choice and steep in boiled water for a few minutes, strain and enjoy!  Jazz it up with a little bit of honey, a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar and a squeeze of lemon. Check out these functional vinegars from Ana’s Farmacy that work perfectly with your tea!

4. They are great for aiding digestive health

Herbal teas containing peppermint, chamomile or liquorice root are often used to settle the stomach, soothe the digestive tract and ease symptoms of IBS.  Chamomile is a staple in our Tummy Tea for this very reason.

5. The centenarians drink it daily!

Centenarians are people who live to be 100 years or older and tend to have lower rates of age-related diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity and cancer.  They are the stars of the recent Netflix documentary Live to 100, Secrets of the Blue Zones! Those living in Ikaria, Greece and Okinawa, Japan (two of the Blue Zones) drink a daily cup of herbal tea. If it’s good for them it’s good for us!
