Need a nourishing reset? Your Gut Cleanse Starter Pack for better digestion!

Did you know several connections exist between the gut microbiome and different organs throughout the body? Last month, at Chuckling Goat, we focused on the gut-skin connection, which looks at the link between gut dysbiosis and how this can manifest as skin issues such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne. This month, we’re exploring the gut-liver connection and how a simple cleanse can help restore balance!

What is the gut-liver axis?

Your liver’s primary function is to filter toxins and carry waste products away through bile. It also regulates amino acids and stores vitamins and minerals.1https://britishlivertrust.org.uk/information-and-support/liver-health-2/abouttheliver/ The health of your microbiome impacts your liver by supporting a healthy intestinal barrier and monitoring the amount of substances that are passed through it. The more pathogens or harmful bacteria in your microbiome, the more likely they are to get into your blood. This is why having a healthy, balanced microbiome is vital for liver function and overall health.

What is the Gut Cleanse Starter Pack?

Our Gut Cleanse Kit is our starting point to cleansing the gut and supporting the liver. It comprises of three elements –

  • Kefir – Packed full of probiotics, 27 different bacterial strains to be exact!
  • Complete Prebiotic powder – Food for your beneficial bacteria.
  • Gut Cleanse Tea – A blend of dandelion root, burdock root and yellow dock root.

What is the difference between Original Kefir and Kefir Light?

When deciding between our Original Kefir and Kefir Light, it all comes down to personal preference. Kefir Light is made with semi-skimmed goat’s milk and has a slightly higher protein value, while the Original is made with whole goat’s milk and therefore has a little more fat. Both kefirs contain the same beneficial bacteria and friendly yeasts, making either kefir an excellent choice for your gut health!

What’s in the Complete Prebiotic powder?

Our Complete Prebiotic powder is a full-spectrum supplement containing 18 prebiotics, making it the most diverse prebiotic available! A blend of important prebiotic fibres such as psyllium husk, spirulina, and chicory root, this powder ensures you’ll keep your fibre levels topped up throughout the day whilst feeding your probiotics.

How does the Gut Cleanse Tea work?

A delicate blend of dandelion, burdock, and yellow dock root, our Gut Cleanse Tea works to naturally heal your gut. Each root has been carefully selected for its gut-healing properties –

Dandelion – used since ancient times for its antimicrobial benefits, studies show it may help prevent liver disease.2https://bnrc.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s42269-021-00567-1 It is also a diuretic, which helps increase urine output, flushing out toxins from the body.

Burdock – used for centuries for its detoxifying properties. Studies have shown its ability to reduce fat build-up, which can contribute to fatty liver disease, and help protect hepatic cells from injury.3https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10647434/#

Yellow dock root – this herb has been shown to have therapeutic potential in terms of treating mild diabetes, diarrhoea, and constipation, amongst other complaints like disorders of the liver and gallbladder.4https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0378874115301264?via%3Dihub

Does the Gut Cleanse Tea have any other benefits?

Dandelion root is an excellent herb for helping the body balance hormones through healthy digestion. Its bitter taste stimulates receptors in the gallbladder and liver, producing digestive juices to break down food and excess hormones.

Burdock also supports the liver’s metabolism of hormones, including peaks of sexual hormones, such as oestrogen. Oestrogen levels rise and fall twice during the menstrual cycle, so these two herbs can help balance the peaks so they’re not too high, and the troughs so they’re not too low. Yellow dock has similar liver-supporting properties.

Can I drink the Gut Cleanse Tea every day?

Like any cleanse, our Gut Cleanse Tea should be taken for a limited period of time, as cleanses may deplete the system over time. We recommend taking our Gut Cleanse Tea for 21 days only. You may then take it again after a three-week break, but do not take it more than twice a year. This tea contains natural herbs that have been demonstrated to have antimicrobial and infection-fighting properties, but ongoing cleanses are depleting.

Want to know how to drink our Gut Cleanse Tea? Cover 1 TBSP herbs with 3 cups of freshly boiled water, lid, and steep for 15 minutes. Strain and drink 1 cup, 3 times daily. Tea can be reheated by adding more hot water.
