Wine, walks & wellness: A love story
Who says wellness has to be green shakes and 5 a.m. HIIT classes, all before the kids have even woken up? Let’s be honest: the best self-care often comes with a little indulgence. For some, it’s a long bath, a good book, or a weekend away. For me? It’s a glass of wine, a brisk walk, and a few simple rituals that spark joy. This is the love story you’ve really been waiting for…
Yesterday, I realised what reliably pulls me out of a rut. January had been long: visitors, too many social plans, saving money, snotty noses—the usual post-holiday chaos. By the end of the month, I felt burnt out and lacking motivation. Time for a shift, but how? The answer: simple pleasures. Wine, walks, and a few micro-wellness habits.
We needed to do a food shop. Normally, Aldi is fine, but the thought of pushing my 1-year-old round the aisles while the sun finally shone outside? Not entirely inspiring. But food shop = unavoidable. So, I made a choice: first, we’d take a proper walk, and then tackle the chores.
Harper and I wandered through town, all the way down to the river and back again, soaking up the late-winter sun before sitting outside a coffee shop, and sharing a scone with jam and cream—naughty but very nice. After devouring our cream tea, I spent more than I usually would on two bottles of red wine from the fancy wine shop.
By the time we finally got to Aldi, I felt lighter, happier, and way more patient, opening a punnet of raspberries for Harper while ticking off the shopping list.
Later that evening, I poured myself a single glass of wine, sat down, and read a book. Bliss.
This morning, I added a teeny, tiny wellness habit: gratitude journaling. Simple. Fun. Three things I’m grateful for every day. Other easy micro-habits you could try include:
- Breathing exercises
- A short digital detox
- Yoga or stretching
No rigid rules, no big life overhaul. Just small, joyful moments that nourish your body and mind.
Your turn
Instead of wondering what massive changes you should make, pare it back. If there’s one thing we know—and do well—at Chuckling Goat, it’s simplifying. Making wellness quicker, easier, and more sustainable (because honestly, it has to be). No big overhaul. Just move your body in ways that feel good, indulge a little without guilt, and add simple micro-habits that actually stick.
This month, start your own ‘Wine, walks, & wellness’ love story. Small pleasures, mindful moments, and a little self-indulgence go a long way.
