A soap inspired by friendship

Every Chuckling Goat product has a story, and Brighten-Up began with a friendship.

During a trip to Shrewsbury, Shann and Rich spent time with their good friend Charlie, a hotel manager and enthusiastic advocate for turmeric soap. Charlie kept asking Shann to create a bar with turmeric at its heart.

His vision was simple: a straightforward, thoughtfully made soap that celebrated turmeric and its place in traditional skincare.

Inspired by his enthusiasm, we began experimenting with turmeric alongside some of our favourite ingredients, including olive oil, coconut oil, and our award-winning kefir.

After plenty of thought and careful formulation, Brighten-Up was born.

It’s a cheerful, naturally inspired cleansing bar that brings together a traditional botanical ingredient and a fresh, uplifting fragrance. And, as with so many good things, it all started with a conversation between friends.

Why turmeric?

Turmeric is best known for its rich golden-orange colour, but there’s more to this familiar spice than meets the eye.

It contains naturally occurring compounds called curcuminoids, including curcumin, which has attracted scientific interest for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Research reviews have explored turmeric and curcumin in relation to a range of skin concerns, with some early findings suggesting potential benefits.³⁴ However, the studies involve different preparations and methods of application, and further research is needed to establish their effectiveness for specific skin concerns.

It’s important to distinguish between research on turmeric and research on a finished turmeric soap.

That’s why we focus on what Brighten-Up is designed to do: cleanse your skin and leave it feeling fresh, soft and cared for.

What makes Brighten-Up different?

Brighten-Up is preservative-free, contains no synthetic fragrance and combines four key ingredients to create its distinctive character:

Turmeric-infused olive oil: Gives the bar its vibrant golden-orange colour and brings turmeric into the formulation.
Chucking Goat Probiotic Kefir: Adds a distinctive ingredient to the soap’s carefully considered formulation.
Coconut oil: Contributes to the cleansing properties and lather of the bar.
Sweet orange essential oil: Provides a fresh citrus fragrance.

How we add turmeric to every bar

We wanted Brighten-Up to be more than just a colourful soap, so we took great care when incorporating turmeric into the formulation.

We begin by infusing turmeric into olive oil. This infused oil is then incorporated into the soap alongside goat kefir, coconut oil and our other nourishing oils.

This process allows us to distribute the turmeric evenly throughout the bar, helping give Brighten-Up its distinctive golden-orange appearance.

The result is a vibrant bar that celebrates turmeric’s colourful heritage without making your skincare routine complicated.

A creamy, comforting cleanse

A good cleansing bar should make your daily routine feel enjoyable, and Brighten-Up is designed with that experience in mind.

The combination of coconut oil, olive oil, goat kefir, and other nourishing plant oils, contribute to the bar’s lather and overall cleansing experience.

As you wash, the creamy lather helps remove everyday dirt and impurities. Once rinsed away, your skin feels clean and refreshed.

The turmeric infusion gives the bar its warm, vibrant colour, while sweet orange essential oil adds a bright, citrusy fragrance.

A little colour, a fresh citrus scent and a simple cleansing ritual: sometimes, it’s the small things that make a difference to how your day begins.

What about sensitive or eczema-prone skin?

Brighten-Up is a lovely choice for adults and children who enjoy simple, naturally inspired skincare. But remember, natural doesn’t = automatically suitable for every skin type!

Children should use the soap with adult supervision and avoid contact with their eyes. As everyone’s skin is different, we recommend testing the soap on a small area before regular use -particularly for individuals with sensitive skin. Dermatologists similarly recommend testing new skincare products before incorporating them into an eczema-prone skincare routine. ⁵

As Brighten-Up contains sweet orange essential oil, it may not be the best choice for someone who knows their skin reacts to fragrance.

If you or your child has eczema, persistent irritation or particularly sensitive skin, seek advice from a healthcare professional before introducing a fragranced cleansing product. Stop using the soap if irritation develops.
